Teaching Schedule Winter / Spring '12

 

 *Drawing and Dynamic Illustration for all ages  

at the Art and Frame Shop of Sarasota 1055 S. Tamiami Trail, Sarasota FL 34236 ( US 41 just south of the old Sarasota High School at the Saba Plaza) 

Classes are only $10 per class  most every SAturday (unless otherwise indicated) from 12:30pm - 2:30pm. AGES 8 AND UP, ANY TALENT LEVEL WELCOME. LEARN TO DRAW LIKE A PRO. IN THIS CLASS WE DRAW ANIMALS, CARS, BUILDINGS, PEOPLE, LANDSCAPES, CARTOONS AND CARICATURE. COME LEARN TO CREATE IMAGES FOR CHILDREN’S BOOKS, EDITORIALS AND GRAPHIC NOVELS. DESIGN CD COVERS, POSTERS, GREETING CARDS AND T-SHIRTS. THIS CLASS COVERS IT ALL! REGULAR ART CLASSES AT SCHOOL DON’T DARE TRY TO TOUCH ON THINGS LIKE PERSPECTIVE, ANATOMY, PORTRAITURE, STORY TELLING, ADVANCED USE OF ART MATERIALS AND COPYRIGHT. MICHAEL IS A SEASONED PROFESSIONAL WHO HAS TAUGHT AT THE RINGLING COLLEGE FOR OVER 18 YEARS. “I TRY TO TEACH THE WAY I WISH I HAD BEEN TAUGHT”. “I MAKE MY MONEY OFF OF MY FREELANCE, I TEACH BECAUSE I WANT TO GIVE BACK.” MICHAEL’S RESUME IS QUITE IMPRESSIVE, HE HAS WORKED FOR DELTA AIRLINES, AMOCO OIL, COCA-COLA, THE RITZ CARLTON, THE ATLANTIS RESORT, MARVEL, TOPPS AND DC COMICS. AFTER GRADUATING RINGLING WITH SCHOLARSHIPS AND HONORS HE WENT ON TO WORK IN NY AND CONNECTICUT COUNTING YALE UNIVERSITY AND THE NEW HAVEN POLICE DEPARTMENT AMONG HIS MANY CLIENTS. You will need these Basic Drawing Materials. A Sketch Pad, a 2B and HB led pencil and a kneaded eraser. All of which may be purchased at the store.

Ringling College of Art Classes


‘Wildacres’ Retreat in NC - "The Dramatic Art of Drawing in Color" (2011)


July 17th - 23rd

Where- At ‘Wildacres’ in Little Switzerland N.C. the Blue Ridge Mountains 

Description- “This is an exceptional week of art no matter what class you take. Also it’s cheap!!!!! We meet for my class every morning and have the afternoon to hike, sleep, tour, or make more art. My studio pretty much goes 24 hours a day since I’m a night owl. The fall leafs are spectacular at this time and all you do is eat and make art along with a lot of other artists who will make you feel like family. If I didn’t teach it I’d pay to go. Sign up almost a year ahead to be sure you get in. Space is limited and in demand. Like I said, it’s cheap!!!!!!!!! You won’t regret going!”

Caricaturing Workshop "the Art of Funny"

When-  Sept, 2011  date to be announced,  10AM - 4:30PM Saturday   

Where- Ringling School of Art 2700 N. tamiami Trail Sarasota FL.

Description- See what has gone before and get all the how-to secrets of cartooning as an art form. You’ll learn how to draw faces, exaggerate them and what to do next. The class gets into drawing bodies and captions but mostly dwells on getting a likeness. Fast paced and fun but requires focus.

Caricaturing "The Art of Funny Part 2" 

(an advanced caricaturing workshop)

Comic Strip Development Part 1 and Part 2

When-  Saturday and Sunday Nov. 2011 date to be announced  10am - 4:30PM Sunday  

you don't have to take both of them but you sure can

Description- come learn how to create and put together your own original comic strips. Start from scratch as a beginner or come with experience and let me crack a whip on ya and make sure you finish something. Then come back and advance your skills to the a whole other level.

“Cartoon and Caricature Art”

Come learn how to draw fantastic cartoons and cleaver cartoon portraits. Taught a Professional Caricaturist Michael White, this class teaches you how to draw figures, faces and situations you might find in any modern cartoon. Story telling with pictures, body language, expression, backgrounds and graphics are all part of this fun 3 day class designed for all ages. Beginners and experienced artist welcomed.

So you like to draw cartoons? Funny, Heroic, Satiric, Political, Editorial etc. Then this class is for you. Come learn and polish your cartooning skills with a seasoned professional who has been in the business of comics and cartooning for over 35 years. In the class Michael White will teach you how to create characters, show you what to do with them and how to ultimately produce your own original cartoons and comics.

“Children’s Book Illustration”

Aug 16, 17, 18   9:00 - 11:30am

Did you ever want to try your hand at illustrating a book? Professional Artist Michael White has put his talent into books for over 35 years and is here to show you how. Bring classic and original characters to life in book form. All ages and levels welcomed in this 3 day fun class which focuses on creating characters, drawing and design. The ins and outs of copyright, production and publication will also be addressed.

“Caricature Illustration”

Aug 16, 17, 18    6 - 8pm

Caricature is the art of funny portraits. In this class learn to draw your friends, family, celebrities and strangers. Come develop your skills to capture likeness and explore ways to twist the facts into images of unexpected delight. Caricature art is fun and profitable. Increasing your speed and quality of drawing is a main goal of this 3 day fun filled class for all ages.

“Illustrated Book Arts”

Aug  9, 10, 11   1 - 4pm

Everyone loves illustrated books. Imagine producing your own illustrated book and publishing it too. In this class learn how to do it yourself from a professional who has produced art for books for over 35 years. Though originality is highly valued in this class don’t fret if You don’t have your own characters or story. This class is designed for beginners and professional artist.
